Costa del Sol, means "coast of the sun" and is situated on the south coast of mainland Spain. It stretches from the Costa Tropical, Costa de Almeria, for approximately 300km along the coast, to the Straits of Gibraltar and includes the provinces of Málaga and Cádiz.

The subtropical climate is responsible for the pleasant temperatures throughout the year, with the mountain range protecting against any northern winds.
Tourism in the Costa del Sol
Since the 60s, the Costa del Sol has developed into a very popular, international tourist destination, enjoying an average of 320 days of sunshine each year. Today, this wonderful destination is home not only to hotels, but also offers a wide range of water-sports and sports facilities, including around 60 golf courses.
Among the most popular destinations are Malaga, which is set on the coast between Nerja and Torre del Mar. To the west of Malaga, the coast runs from Torremolinos and Benalmádena, through Marbella and on to San Pedro de Alcantara.
