Excursions in Manaus
The tour begins with an 11 mile river drive along Ponta Negra road to the floating port of Manaus. We will stop at the Rio Negro Palace, the old official residence of the governor and a beautiful example of architecture of the golden age of rubber production. Next you will visit the Indian Museum and the Salesiana Congregation to understand the traditions, habits and behavior of indigenous people. See Justice Palace and finish the city tour with "Teatro Amazonas." This fantastic theater opened in 1896 and it is considered the highlight of Manaus. It is an extraordinary symbol of the wealth and greatness of the golden age of rubber production. The tour ends at approximately 11:30 a.m.
Depart from Manaus to visit the city of Presidente Figueiredo. The tour begins with a drive through a tropical rainforest to Sanctuary Waterfall. Here you will see the powerful rapids and waterfall formed by the Urubuí River. A lunch of Brazilian cuisine is included at a local restaurant. After lunch, enjoy extraordinary views of Iracema Waterfall which lives harmoniously with its forest surroundings.
Our tour begins from the Tropical Hotel Marina along the Negro River. You will begin the day´s adventure by floating along the Port of Manaus. Here, characteristic Amazon boats dock to distribute their goods to the municipal market. Next, witness the unbelievable meeting of the Negro and Solimões rivers as they join to form the Amazon River. There will be a brief stop to observe this natural phenomenon before we continue sailing up the Negro River to reach the Januaury Ecological Park where visitors can see the famous aquatic plant, Vitória Regia. Afterwards, ride in a motorized canoe through the igarapés (creeks) of the Negro and Solimões Rivers. In the dry season (February to September) we will enjoy a jungle stroll instead. Lunch will be served at a floating restaurant. We will also visit local indian handcraft stores.
Your survival class begins with a boat departure from the Tropical Hotel Marina heading towards Tupé Village. Along your jungle tour, learn about the different types of vegetation, how to identify fruit, trees, medicine leaves, roots and find various sources of water. You will also learn how to construct small traps to catch animals. The tour continues by canoe with an opportunity to swim and visit the home of local Amazonian residents.
Depart from Manaus to Vila Paraíso (set of the movie The Jungle). Our visit begins at a waterfront warehouse where rubber boards boats to be shipped around the world. Here we will enter the Rubber Master House whose majestic architecture shows the wealth of Brazilian rubber plantations from the industry boom and war effort. During our tour, visit the large tent where rubber making tools were kept. You will also see the chapel and the flour warehouse. Then walk along a short trail into the jungle to see rubber trees as well as witness the process of collecting it. You will see where rubber balls were placed to begin the smoking process. Finally, visit the modest houses where the rubber extraction employees lived. The home portrays the life and habits of the old rubber extraction era. We will return to Manaus with a brief stop at Tupé Beach where there might be a possibility of swimming. Estimated arrival time at the hotel is at 1:00 p.m.
