After this,we will hit the road again to go to Vicuña,which is the most important town in the area.Vicuña is also hometown of Gabriela Mistral,NobelPrize poet. You will also see the Baüer tower (former town council anda current symbol),the main square and the church. We will have lunch in a typical restaurant. Once we are done with lunch,we will visit the tomb of Gabriela Mistral and her childhood school-house.
We start our fascinating day trip along the coastline from where we can see the tourist centers and resorts of Totoralillo, Las Tacas, Morrillos. We detour to reach Fray Jorge National Park, within bounds of 1.000 hectares of which 400 hectares are made up of hydrophilic vegetation woods, common in the south of Chile. Three different ecosystems converge together in this park, arid, semi-arid and wooded. Lunch is enjoyed in a typical restaurant. After lunch travel along a rural road which leads us to The Valle del Encanto, an outdoors museum of cultural and scientific interest. At this site there's a variety of geographs (drawing lines).

The road continues along sloping ground from where we can observe several views of the rocky coast. From the road we will be able to see a common dense glaze called Camanchaca, a phenomena occurring just a few months each year which is the dessert full of flowers. After travelling 122kms, we arrive at Los Choros Fishermen´s Wharf, a natural viewpoint to see Gaviota, Choro and Damas Islands. We will board a motor launch leading us to Humboldt Penguins National Reserve, which is part of this area, aboard we will the bottle-nose dolphins making jumps and pirouettes. We disembark from the motor launch in Damas Islands to appreciate its white sand beaches. Well return to the coast and enjoy a lunch of seafood in a typical restaurant. Driving from La Serena along the Pan-American Highway we will have the chance to admire the Herradura (horseshoe), Las Tacas and Guanaqueros beaches, east bound we can see a variety of growing grape including the cucumber and sweet water melon flavors. Continuing along the wine route, the tour leads to Francisco de Aguirre Vineyard, settled in the middle of the valley, between the Andes Mountain Ranges. After visiting and seeing different kinds of vines along with a complete explanation on wine making, you will enjoy a wine tasting in a propitious, authentic underground cellar. The tour leads us to Ovalle, the capital city of Limarí province. A stop is made at a local restaurant for a typical lunch. Leaving Ovalle, the tour continues to del Encanto Valley where we find geograhs, pictographs and characteristic figures carved in the rocks. It is said they whisper the story of El Molle culture´s indigenous and show us the majestic fortifications and ¨whispering walls¨. Your tour will include a visit to the Archaeological museum and the unique and picturesque Recova Market which is a typical tourist center for exhibition and sales of typical local handicrafts. We finish in La Herradura (horseshoe) resort located in the mystic and legendary bay of Guayacán.
At sunset we start our trip to the inner Elqui Valley. Passing through the town of San Isidro we will arrive at Mamalluca Amateur Observatory. From this special place you will be able to direct observations of the universe. The observatory itself has a dome in which an electronic telescope makes the observation possible for you to enjoy a pleasant night contemplation of the stars. Some pictures will be displayed and at the same time a instructive talk about the Southern Hemisphere´s stars: In this atmosphere you will be encouraged by the astronomy of Galileo. After this talk, the night observation of stars, planets, galaxies will be carried out. The southern hemisphere is essentially important for the astronomy, that´s why four of the most advanced and best observatories are located in the mountain region of Coquimbo. These observatories are Tololo, Pachon, La Silla and La Campana. We return to La Serena after having enjoyed two hour of astronomical observations.
