Village of Zapopan, Oblatos and Canyon Tour

This four hour excursion mixes nature and culture. First we'll visit Zapopan, home of the famous Virgin before we move on to explore the impressive Barranca de Oblatos Canyon.

We'll start the tour with a scenic drive through the exclusive residential and commercial area of Zapopan with its many modern buildings and skyscrapers. However, this old colonial-era settlement is most famous for being the home of the Shrine of the Our Lady of Zapopan, the patron saint of Guadalajara. The image itself, which was made by local craftsmen in the 17th Century is housed in the impressive Basilica, also dating from the 17th Century, although it wasn't actually finished until 1892.

Other attractions here include the Museo de Arte de Zapopan, housing many temporary and permanent exhibitions, the colourful beads and embroidery of the Huichiol people are of particular interest. Zapopan also boasts a lively arts scene with many theatres, galleries and cultural events.

Then we'll drive on to the Barranca Oblatos canyon, carved over millions of years by the Rio Grande. This impressive canyon with 600m high towering walls is home to a four different ecosystems and several endemic species of flora and fauna. Here you can swim, explore the many waterfalls or just relax and enjoy the breathtaking views and the sounds of nature.

This four hour excursion includes hotel pick up and drop off, all transfers and the services of a bilingual guide. Please note that meals and drinks are not included. We suggest you bring comfortable shoes and clothes, swimsuit, sunglasses and a cap, sun block and extra cash.
