Excursions in Windhoek
Will learn about monuments of different colonial times and modern buildings within the central business district. You will see among others the Reiterdenkmal, the Tintenpalast palace of ink; the neo-Romanic Christus Church ; a narrow-gauge locomotive at the main railway station; the old power magazine, oldest existing building in Windhoek; the Schwerin's, Heinitz, Sparrow's Joy and Sanderburg castles; the Namdeb diamond building and the Supreme Court.
During five interesting hours we will concentrate on "Windhoek" vibrant suburb, meaning "the place where we do not want to live", showing why the suburb is nowadays regarded as "Matatura" "the place we want to live". Different settlements will be explored by car and on foot; children will jump into the car and join us for the extra mile. We will experience the Herero market where we can buy some spicy finger food or taste mopane worms. At the Soweto market we have the opportunity to play pool billiard against the locals. You will also visit one of the many self-help Anti HIV-projects and orphanages as well as the Habitat Training Centre of environmental education.
