Reference point for lovers of contemporary art, the museum is a symbol of how a spectacular constructions such as that by Ghery may contribute to the regeneration of an area. The permanent collection of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao fundamentally includes works by the most famous artists from the past four decades of this century, complemented by works lent by the Salomón R. Guggenheim Foundation, which includes significant examples of pop art, minimalism, arte povera, conceptual art, abstract expressionism, etc., as is the case with the special programmes that are promoted by the foundation. Moreover, several rooms in the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao are dedicated to monographic montages whilst others house works for a specific location, namely expressly commisioned for this museum. Contemporary Basque and Spanish art are also represented by a selection of works by our best artists who, on the whole, proivide a detailled impression of the current trends in our art.
