Excursions in Darwin-Red Center NT
This 4WD Safari travels through the rugged Central Australian landscape and down the bed of the Finke River into Palm Valley.
See spectacular rock formations, white sands and an oasis of rock pools and palm trees. Some plants, such as the cycad and Livistona Mariae are known world-wide as relic plants and are unique to Central Australia.
Travel west from Alice Springs following the spectacular West MacDonnell Ranges. Our first stop is at Simpsons Gap with its beautiful red gums. Continue to Angkerle (Standley Chasm). Walk along the stony watercourse lined with cycads, ghost gums, cypress pines and acacias.
A light lunch will be provided before you depart for Alice Springs Desert Park.
Travel South from Alice Springs through the MacDonnell and James Ranges. Visit a camel farm where there is time to take a short optional camel ride (own expense) if you wish. Later stop at Erldunda where there is the opportunity to purchase morning tea. Pause to view majestic Atila (Mt Conner) before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort.
You can hop-on and off at any of the 11 stops, sightsee, shop or grab a bite to eat and then hop back on again when the next bus comes along.
Reptile Centre: Reptiles once ruled the earth and they are still a varied and fascinating group of animals. At the Centre, you can meet the rare and enormous perentie lizard with its striking markings, as well as bluetongues, bearded lizards and thorny devils. Many of the animals are screen stars too, having appeared in a range of films.
Take a one hour tour on our gentle camels up close to the scenic MacDonnell Ranges through White Gums Station. See unique Australian animals such as kangaroos, birds and other native wildlife as you experience the true beauty of the Red Centre. As you settle in for a peaceful ride aboard our ships of the desert', you'll see the colours of the ranges deepen to a glowing red and the sky shift from cobalt blue to orange pink.
The tour includes a short transfer from all accommodation in Alice Springs to Undoolya Station, only 17km east of the town centre.
This is the oldest working station in the NT and OQA are the sole operators on the station. The adventure allows a guided tour with commentary across the station over bush tracks, dry riverbeds, and beside mountain ranges. Wildlife is viewed at close proximity.
Tour the sights of 'The Alice' including the historic Telegraph Station. Visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service and learn how this marvelous facility operates to provide a 'Mantle of Safety' to the people of the 'Outback'.
Visit the School of the Air where sometimes you are able to listen to the children take lessons on air. At the Alice Springs Reptile Park you will see unique Central Australian reptiles, such as the Perentie Lizard and Thorny Devil.
Finish the day with panoramic views of Alice Springs and the ranges from the top of Anzac Hill.
