Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands with the largest population: about 907 000. The island lies only 120 km from the coast of Morocco away. The capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife. National language is Spanish. Tenerife is world famous because of the Pico del Teide, at 3,718 meters the highest mountain in Spain
History of Tenerife
The origin of the aborigines, called Guanches, is uncertain. It is estimated that Berbers from North Africa around 3,000 BC, settled the Canary Islands. The Spaniards settled in the 15th Century and took over 1495 the rule. United Kingdom in 1657 and 1706 tried unsuccessfully to submit to Tenerife. Spain belongs to the EU since 1986. The Canaries but have a special status as a free trade zone.
Climate of Tenerife
Bathing weather prevails throughout the year with average temperatures between 17 and 25 degrees. Only when the winds blow from the Sahara, the temperature rises extremely. Tenerife is a very poor island rain.
